Socket Preservation

After a tooth is extracted, the socket tissue will heal and eventually fill with bone, but the amount of bone regrowth is often not enough to support a dental implant if you wish to replace the lost tooth. For this reason, it may be necessary to perform a socket bone graft after tooth extractions to preserve the alveolar ridge. The socket is cleared of infection and bone graft material is packed into the socket and given time to heal – usually 3 to 6 months. This greatly improves your chances of a good outcome when an implant is put in.
