What is a Periodontist?
Periodontists are dentists who have 3-4 years of specialized training beyond dental school in an accredited periodontology residency training program. During their time at Chapel Hill, the residents complete a thorough review of the periodontal literature. Comprehensive diagnosing and treatment planning of patients with periodontal (gum) disease is acquired in this program. They learn surgical and non surgical treatment of periodontal diseases as well as soft tissue and bone graft procedures, pre-restorative surgical procedures, and the placement of dental implants.
Periodontists are experts in treating periodontal diseases.
