Mandibular Tori Reduction
Lower jaw (mandibular) tori (bony protrusions) are noncancerous growths of bone on the inside surface of the jaw which occur naturally in some people (under 10 percent of the population). There is usually no need to remove them if they are not causing pain or discomfort. Removing them may be indicated for the following reasons:
- to enable dentures to fit better
- to relieve chronic pain from inflamed gum surfaces
- to relieve an uncomfortable tongue position because of the size of the tori
- to prevent the tori from interfering with speech
- to prepare the mouth for dental implants
